◇Before applying for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (hereinafter referred to as “JLPT”), please read the following precautions. If you are representative of a group application group, please convey the details below to all applicants in the group. All applicants are deemed to have agreed with all details noted in these “Precautions when taking the test”.
◇Please confirm the latest test application procedures and detailed schedules from the “Test Guide” section on the JLPT website of the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (hereinafter referred to as “JEES”).
1. Test voucher precautions
(1) The test voucher will be delivered by a date specified by JEES.
The test voucher will also be available on the MyJLPT “Check and Modify JLPT Application” screen.
◆For group applications, the test vouchers for all applicants in the group will
be sent to the group representative.
Details of the test vouchers for applicants in the group can be checked on the MyJLPT “Check and Modify JLPT Application” screen for the group representative.
(2) If you have not received the test voucher or if you have lost your test voucher,
please print out the test voucher on the “Check and Modify JLPT Application” screen and bring it with you to the test site. The printout can be used as an official test voucher.
◆If you cannot print out the test voucher on the “Check and Modify JLPT
Application” screen, we can fax the test voucher to you.
Please call the Application Center during the inquiry period and notify them of a fax number that the test voucher can be sent to.
If you do not have a fax at home, the fax can be sent to one at a school, office, convenience store or other location.

If you were unable to take the test because you did not contact the Application Center during the above period, the test fee will not be refunded.
(3) When the test voucher has arrived, immediately verify that your personal details, including the spelling of your name and your date of birth, and country / district are correct.
◆Your name may not be altered completely. Name correction allowed shall be about one or two characters only.
◆It is not possible to change both name and date of birth.
◆If there are any errors in your personal details on your test voucher, please send following ①~③ documents for the Application Center by mail within the test voucher data correction acceptance period.
A fee of 1,000 yen is necessary for correction after this period.

●NOTE
If your name on the test voucher is incorrect, the name will be printed on the answer sheet as it is. Use the sheet as it is. Changes will not be accepted at the test site.

2. Test Site Precautions
(1) You will be notified of your test site by the test voucher.
Notification is also made on the MyJLPT “Check and Modify JLPT Application” screen.
(2) JLPT Application Center cannot answer each examinee’s test site via telephone or any other means.
Do not contact a university or other test sites under any circumstances.
(3) Test sites are specified based on the test area, postal code and test level registered at the time of application.
Once assigned, test site cannot be changed regardless of the reason.
(4) Directions to the test site will be provided on your test voucher.
(5) You are not allowed to take the test at a test site different from the test site that was assigned to you on the test voucher.
(6) Do not arrive at your test site by car, motorcycle or bicycle. You are not allowed to use the parking space of the test sites or free parking spaces or bicycle parking spaces around the test sites.
●NOTE
If a disturbance is caused at or near the test site due to drop off / pick up buses or cars, and/or illegal parking, the applicants may not be allowed to take the test. (Test fees will not be refused in this case.) The test site does not provide parking information.
(7) The test sites do not have a waiting room for accompanying persons or children. Only examinees will be allowed to enter the test site building.
(8) Keep the toilets, test rooms and corridors clean at the test site. Do not touch the equipment of the test site.
(9) Smoking is allowed at the specified places only. Smoking is totally banned at some test sites.
(10) Please take all trash back to your home with you.
(11) Be considerate of the local residents. Follow the traffic rules and do not make any excessive noise when traveling to and from the test site.
(12) Any violations of these guidelines will be regarded as “improper behavior”. In such cases, the results of your exam will be invalidated.
(The test fee will not be refunded.)
3. Test precautions on the day of the test
(1) Items to bring
① Test voucher (tear along the dotted line)
② Writing instruments
(HB pencils or mechanical pencils and plastic erasers taken out of their cases)
③ Wristwatch without a memory fuction
(time display of mobile phones / smartphone, smartwatches, alarm watches,pocket watches and table clocks and not allowed)
④ Identidication document
(You may be requested to show an original identification certificate with your face photography〔within expiration date〕such as a passport or a residence card for identification.)
●NOTE 1
Only items ② and ③ will be allowed on your desk during the test. All other items must be put away.(The pencil lead case for a mechanical pencil is also not allowed on the desk.)
(2) Entering the test room
① Examinee is requested enter the test room between 11:45 noon and 12:30 p.m.
(no entry is permitted before 11:45.)
②The test starts at 12:30 p.m.
(Examinees cannot enter the test room after this time for any reason whatsoever.)
●NOTE 1
Examinees must take their seats before 12:30. If you are late for this time,you will not be able to accept the first section. Although you can take the next section, which will not be scored and you will be disqualified.
●NOTE 2
For any test section, examinees are not allowed to enter the test room once test hour has begun for that section.
●NOTE 3
Any tardy arrival shall not, in principle, be allowed even if it is caused from a delay of a mass transit system. The principle does not change even if you have obtained a delay certificate.

●NOTE 1
Examinees are not allowed to enter the test room once test hours have begun for any test section.
●NOTE 2
Test hours include instruction time etc, in addition to the actual answer time.
●NOTE 3
The time allotted for the Listening section may differ slightly according to the length of the recorded materials.
●NOTE 4
After the test, examinees must wait for proctors to finish counting the question booklets and the answer sheets for about 20 min.
●NOTE 5
Test time shall be according to the watch of the test proctor of each classroom.
(4) Notice
① The room temperature of the test rooms at some test sites might not be adjustable, so dress in a manner that allows you to adapt to the room temperature.
② Remove hats and sunglasses during the test.
③ The test start and end time may be delayed due to test conduction circumstances.JEES is not liable for the handling charges, transportation costs, or other expenses incurred as a result of changes or cancellations of travel arrangements in such circumstances. Test fees cannot be refunded even if the examinee is unable to take the test due to a test delay.
④ No one may leave the test room until the proctor gives permission to leave.
⑤ When you feel sick during the test, report to the proctor.
Note that if you leave the test room during the Listening test,you may not return to the test room.
⑥ Questions on the contents of the test and how to answer questions cannot be answered.
⑦ The test might be called off when the implementation of the test is subject to a significant impact from an Act of God or other reasons.
⑧ Please check “To all the examinees” before coming to the test site.
(5)Electronic devices (mobile phones, smartphones, smartwatches, etc.)
In the exam room, use of electronic devices (mobile phones, smartphones, smartwatches, etc.) is prohibited.
If your electronic devices ring (including silent mode vibration or alarm) between the beginning of answering the test and the proctor says 「かいとうようしと もんだいようしの かくにんが おわりました。」(We have finished to check the answer sheets and question booklets), you will be disqualified.
You will also be disqualified if you put electronic devices out on your desk, wear them, or use them between the beginning of answering the test and finishing to check the answer sheet and question booklet by the proctor.
Be sure to switch off your electronic devices, put them in a plastic bag provided at the test site and put in your bag.
(Simply leaving them in “silent” or “manner” mode is not allowed.)
Depending on the type of mobile phone, smartphone, smartwatch, etc., even if the power is turned off, there may be a ringing, a vibration, or an alarm at a set time.
Please do not bring unnecessary electronic devices to the test site.
If it is found that you have electronic devices without following the proctor’s instructions, it is regarded as an improper behavior.
(6) The answer sheet
① Your name and registration number are printed on the answer sheet. If the number is different from the number on your test voucher, immediately move to the correct sheet.
If you take the exam using a sheet with someone else’s number, the results will be invalidated.
② A computer-scored answer sheet is used for the test. Be sure to mark your answers on the answer sheet with a black HB-graded pencil or mechanical pencil.
●NOTE
Answers written on the question booklet will not be scored.

④ The answer sheets are of the mark-sheet type. They are processed by a machine. Pay attention to the following points when filling out the answersheets.
・Use a black HB-graded pencil or mechanical pencil. Answers written by ball-point pens will not be scored.
・When changing your answer, be sure to erase any previous marks completely.
・Do not soil or bend the sheet.
・Marks like the ones shown in the incorrect example below will not be scored.
(7) Improper behavior (Yellow card = caution)
Any examinee who demonstrates any of the behavior listed below will be shown a yellow card by the protector. If the protector shows an examinee the yellow card for the second time in one section, the examinee will be disqualified and dismissed.
All of the examinee’s test sections will then be invalidated, answers will not be scored, and the test result will not be sent.
① Opening the question booklet or starting to answer the questions before the instruction to start.
② Allowing your mobile electronic devices (mobile phones, smartphones, smartwatches, etc.) to ring, including silent mode vibration or the alarm to sound, or the chime or alarm of your watch to sound during the time allocated for instructions of the test (all section).
③ Speaking without permission during the test.
④ Giving answers to other examinees (using gestures), finding out answers from other examinees, looking at another examinee’s answers or engaging in what looks like cheating.
⑤ Continuing to write on the answer sheet after the instruction to stop writing.
Not handing in the answer sheet at the time of collection.
⑥ Any attempt to copy the contents of the question booklet and/or answer sheets on something, or to make sound recordings.
⑦ The proctor considers you to be engaged in behavior that disturbs other examinees.
⑧ Eating (including chewing gum) or drinking during the test.
⑨ Smoking at places other than specified and littering in the test sites, and acting inappropriately against other examinees
or local residents near the test sites.
⑩ Failing to obey instructions given by the proctor and the test site officials.
(8) Improper behavior (Red card = disqualification or exit)
Any of the behavior listed below will result in a red card and the examinee will be disqualified and dismissed.
All of the examinee’s test sections will be invalidated, answers will not be scored and the test result will not be sent.
① Allowing your electronic devices (mobile phones, smartphones, smartwatches, etc.) to ring, including silent mode vibration or the phone alarm to sound, or the chime or alarm of your watch to sound between the beginning of answering the test and the proctor says 「かいとうようしと もんだいようしの かくにんが おわりました。」(We have finished to check the answer sheets and question booklets)(all section).
Putting your electronic devices on your desk, wear them, or use them between the beginning of answering the test and the proctor says 「かいとうようしと もんだいようしの かくにんが おわりました。」(We have finished to check the answer sheets and question booklets)(all section).
② Referring to cheat sheets or reference books, etc. during the test.
③ Writing numbers or characters on the cloth or any part of your body.
④ Taking the question booklets or answer sheets out of the examination room, copying the contents of the question booklet and/or answer sheets and taking them out of the examination room, or making sound recordings of the “Listening” section.
⑤ The person taking the test is not the person registered on the test voucher.
⑥ Marking answers on someone else’s answer sheet, or exchanging question booklets or answer sheets with someone else.
⑦ Leaving the examination room at the end of the test before the proctor gives permission to leave.
●NOTE1
Your test results will be nullified if you disclose the contents of the question booklet and the answer sheet or audio of the listening section via the Internet or other means without permission from the organizer.
Any items used for cheating (cheat sheets, electronic devices, etc.) will be confiscated and not returned.
●NOTE2
If the organizer for any reason about the propriety of an examinee’s score, JEES has the right to re-administer the test, invalidate your test results (including those from past tests), refuse to notify you of your test result, and ban you from taking future Japanese-Language Proficiency Tests. If there is an inquiry about your performance from a company, school, organization or other entity when your past test results have been invalidated, JEES will notify the corresponding company, school, organization or other entity that your results are invalid.
The organizer shall not be responsible for any damages suffered by you the examinee nor any other type of claim made as a result of re-administering the test, not having your score notified, having your score invalidated, or being banned from ever taking the test again.
●NOTE3
Examinees engaging in malicious and dishonest behavior during the test will be reported to the police for actions such as fraudulent obstraction of buisiness operations.
4. Notice of Test Results
(1) You will be notified of your test results with a “Test Result”. The Test Result will be mailed to the examinee by a date specified by JEES. Examinees who have passed the test will also receive a Certificate of Japanese-Language Proficiency.
Test results will also be available on the MyJLPT “Test Result and Certificate Issuance” screen. However, printouts of the screen cannot be used as an official Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate of Result and Scores.
◆For group applications, Test Results for all examinees in the group will be mailed to the group representative.
Test results for all examinees in the group will be available on the MyJLPT “Test Result and Certificate Issuance” screen of the group representative.
However, printouts of the screen cannot be used as an official Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate of Result and Scores.
If application was made using the Block registration by the group representative, examinees in the group will not be able to view their test results in their individual MyJLPT screens, even though the examinees registered with MyJLPT for individual registration.
(2) Your test result may arrive late due to delays in the postal service. If the original test result could not be delivered due to an error on your part (e.g. incorrect address) or because you had not submitted a change of address notification, you will be changed for the postage of redelivery.
(3) JEES does not report results over the phone or e-mail.
(4) The test result cannot be reissued, so it should be retained for your future reference.
(5) If you are absent from any test section(s), you fail in the test and all other test sections, which you may take, will not be considered for scoring.
5. Other
(1) Please be careful about following matters to receive your test voucher or notice of test results.
① Please display your name on the mailbox.
Your name must be displayed on the mailbox of your house / apartment in both kanji / katakana and Roman letters.
The test voucher and test results cannot be delivered if only the room number is indicated on your mailbox.
In order to confirm your residence, your name must be displayed on the mailbox otherwise the mail may not be delivered.
② If you are living with someone else, please write “In care of (name)” for the address to be registered when applying.
③ Please write the name of the apartment building and the apartment number for the address to be registered when applying.
④ Please make sure that the postal code and address are correct (make sure not to forget the chome, and banchi numbers)
for the address to be registered when applying.
⑤ If you have moved or will be moving, please make sure to perform the following procedures.

Promptly notify the nearest post office of your new address.(Submission of a change of address notification)

[If you are moving after receiving the test voucher]
After taking the test, your address information can be changed during a set period on the MyJLPT “Check and Modify JLPT Application” screen. If you change your registered address information during this period, your Test Result will be sent to your new address.
However, please make sure to also notify the nearest post office of your new address as well.
⑥ If you want to receive the test result at an overseas address, mail the following two items to the Application Center within the overseas dispatch request period.
・a photocopy of your test voucher
(enter your telephone number in a vacant column)
・an envelope (large enough to hold a postcard) with the required postage stamp affixed (depending on the country).
* Write your name, overseas address, and examinee registration number on the envelope.
* Documents with defects will not be dispatched.
